About
Emma St. Kathryn
An Atlanta-based actor, writer, poet, and performance artist, Emma St. Kathryn has forever found her nourishment and spark from the theatre: whether entrancing a live audience or drawing in the camera lens, Emma lives and breathes the communal act of storytelling and social reflection.
As a little girl, Emma was often caught flouncing in fantastical apparel, (semi) aggressively directing her friends in a living room production, or creating a tragic scene out of marigolds and mud-pies. As she grew, Emma wasted no seconds taking her dramatic edge to the stage, performing in numerous productions by the Little Flowers Catholic Dance and Theatre Troupe of Chicagoland (yes, it’s a mouthful—now say it five times fast) and studying classical ballet (a spunky mixture of Vaganova and Balanchine) under the astute tutelage of Julianna Rubio Slager at the now School of Ballet 5:8 .
Entering the young-adult phase, Emma went after (and achieved) her BA in Theatre: Acting/Directing at DeSales University. Simultaneously, Emma appeared on the DeSales Mainstage for several roles and became well-acquainted with the TV/Film Department, appearing in multiple student films including Storing Treasures, The Understudy, and Sibling’s Day.
This wasn’t enough, however, and Emma decided she needed to soak up some of the juicy talent in the London air (that’s why it’s so cloudy, right?) and leapt over the pond to earn her MFA Acting (International) at East 15 Acting School, University of Essex (the hipster grunge school of British drama). While eating biscuits and sipping tea, Emma debuted on London stages with performances of her self-penned monologue Sins of the Father, the company-devised WWI memory play Make the Dead Man Stand (directed by the gorgeous Sonia Ritter), and twice appearing on West-End venues first co-starring as Penelope in Margaret Atwood’s The Penelopiad: the Play and then manning the role of Gower in Shakespeare’s Pericles.
Taking a reprieve as a sojourner, Emma returned to her Chicago home, working closely with her balletic alma mater Ballet 5:8 to create the foundations of the then non-existent acting/drama department for the School and to offer her trained eye to company-related storytelling and acting.
Then COVID……………………………………let’s skip ahead, shall we?
Now based in the topographically diverse southern states of the US, Emma has continued sharing her artistic flair with Chattanooga and is turning her excitement to create to Hollywood of the East Coast: Atlanta!
An equally physical and text-based actor, Emma thrives on curating stories that uplift the heart and mind through stimulating and challenging language paired with engaging and visceral movement, radiating Beauty through expressive Joy.
